The Reno City Council unanimously approved a first responder drone program on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at a cost of $1.9 million over six years.
The goal is to improve Reno police response times for high-priority calls and give first responders a clearer picture of active crime scenes.
The Reno Police Department is partnering with Motorola Solutions on the BRINC MSI Take Off drone program, which is expected to launch in April 2026.
BRINC Drones founder Blake Resnick said his company has partnered with about 700 public safety agencies and that the typical response time is within 70 seconds of an emergency call.
The program is free for the pilot year. After that, the subscription will cost nearly $400,000 a year, with options to customize and possibly expand the program.
