Arizona lawmakers are asking for a raise again. And once again, they haven’t earned it.
Right now, legislators make $24,000 a year — the same amount since 1998. Some argue that low pay keeps regular people from serving. Others say the workload has grown too much for part-time wages. But before voters consider raising salaries, lawmakers need to prove they’re working in the public’s interest. So far, they haven’t.
