NEVADA CITY, Calif. —

Nevada City transforms into a festive wonderland with its 47th annual Victorian Christmas celebration, drawing visitors and supporting local businesses in the historic Gold Rush town.

The December event turns back the Christmas clock to the 1840s, immersing folks in the charm of the Victorian era with costumed characters, decorations and festivities.

"Just the nostalgia. It's all this when you're little, you saw movies of people dressed up and enjoying the festivities. And this, the tradition of it all," said LeeAnn McCluskey of Sacramento.

Shoppers wander the hilly streets, searching for gifts and admiring the garland-decorated storefronts while savoring sweet treats.
