OKOBOJI, Iowa (KTIV) - The Pearson Lakes Arts Center will open the Goodenow Gallery on Thursday with a grand opening ceremony at 5 p.m.

The new gallery showcases eight Soviet-era paintings donated by John and Karen Goodenow. The new acquisition expands what is believed to be the second-largest collection of Russian Impressionism in the United States.

The eight pieces were predominantly created by Ukrainian artists and were originally commissioned by the Soviet Union to depict everyday life of that era.

“They had purchased this art at the same time that the Pearsons had donated the art that is in our gallery upstairs,” said Bob Kirschbaum, executive director of the Pearson Lakes Art Center. “We have been told that it is the second largest collection of Russian Impressionism in the countr
