JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office has significantly expanded its drone program, rolling out new technology that officials say is already improving investigations and emergency response.
JPSO recently shared drone video used to track suspects in several cases, showcasing part of a $1.5 million investment in its initiative, which began in early November.
Sheriff Joe Lopinto said the department started with five drones and now operates 19, with more on the way.
“It’s assisted us with over 60 apprehensions already, and we’re really looking forward to the amount of calls that they’ll be able to go to,” Lopinto said.
