SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. (KWCH) - Kansas farmers are responding to President Trump’s $12 billion aid package designed to help agricultural producers struggling to sell crops amid tariffs from a trade war with China.
The relief package targets farmers who have been unable to market their harvests while facing retaliatory tariffs as part of ongoing trade disputes.
“This relief will provide much needed certainty to farmers as they get this year’s harvest to market and look ahead to next year’s crops,” Trump said.
Kent Ott, a farmer near Haysville, said the trade war has created problems for many Kansas farmers, particularly soybean growers.
“Things have been changing in China. They have become, I hate to say it, but they have become an adversary with our country,” Ott said.
