LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Bill Hawkins, known as Farmer Bill around Lincoln, has been collecting coats and other winter accessories for the people on the Pine Ridge Reservation for 10 years.

Those on the reservation don’t have the means to keep themselves warm during these bitter winter months.

The counties where the reservation sits are two of the most underprivileged counties in the United States, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Hawkins said that his reasons for starting this drive came from visiting the villages on the reservation and noticing the need.

“I saw a need and I am able to organize,” Hawkins said. “I have a great community of businesses that are gathered together to put this together,” Hawkins said.
