I-90 eastbound is expected to remain closed through the night after a landslide blocked the road with trees, mud, rocks and debris Wednesday afternoon near North Bend.

About 5 miles of the freeway closed, between milepost 27 and 32.

Washington State Department of Transportation spokesperson Casey Conley said crews will return to the site in the early morning with a geotechnical expert to evaluate the hillside to make sure the road is safe to reopen.

Specialized crews and heavy equipment will also be required to remove the debris. Conley said there was no estimate for when the highway would be reopened, since it is dependent on the geological assessment.
