IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - At this time last year, one Mount Vernon standout planned to throw in college as a track and field athlete. Instead, she’s wrestling for the University of Iowa.

As she picked up her second state title at 190 pounds, Libby Dix thought that might be the end of her wrestling career. That was until summer rolled around.

“I competed at USA state in Iowa and went on to compete at Fargo, but before that I guess Freestyle state opened up a window for me. Like hey, ‘I don’t think I’m done wrestling,’” she explained.

The 2025 state discuss champion said one of the things she loved about throwing was that she was constantly learning. With freestyle wrestling, Dix had a whole new sport to learn.
