The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a travel health advisory for individuals planning to visit tropical countries, citing an increase in Chikungunya virus outbreaks.
Recent outbreaks have been reported in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, southern China's Guangdong Province, and Cuba, with the World Health Organisation (WHO) noting that cases also occur across the Americas, Asia, and Africa, with occasional smaller outbreaks in Europe.
The CDC has warned that Americans travelling to countries like Brazil, Colombia, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Thailand could be at increased risk of chikungunya infection , even if there is no active outbreak reported in those countries at the moment.
