NHS guidance urges people taking statins to stop taking their pills and seek medical attention, should they notice any of several specific symptoms. Statins are designed to reduce levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol within the bloodstream.
LDL cholesterol is commonly known as "bad cholesterol", with statins working to diminish its production within the liver. Elevated LDL cholesterol levels pose significant health risks and may increase the likelihood of strokes, heart attacks, angina, and coronary heart disease.
Those prescribed statins typically take them once daily. Like with other medicines, certain individuals taking statins may experience some unwanted side effects
