HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A live rat, cockroaches, and insufficient refrigeration were found during a routine inspection at Himalayan Kitchen in Kaimuki.

The Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) issued the red placard and immediate shutdown of the restaurant on Tuesday due to insufficient refrigeration for food requiring time/temperature control for safety (TCS).

DOH said during Tuesday’s inspection, an inspector documented multiple critical violations, including:

Insufficient refrigeration in all units for TCS foods

Food not in good condition, including moldy items

Improper use of tobacco in the kitchen

Improper date marking, including food held more than 24 hours without a seven-day discard label and food labeled past the seven-day limit

Toxic materials stored above single-use food
