The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Wednesday granted permission to the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), the main controlling body of professional golf in India, to conduct a feasibility study on whether the Mulund dumping ground in Mumbai could be transformed into a golf course. One of Mumbai’s oldest dumpsites, the Mulund site contains around 70 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of garbage.

The civic body has begun the process of bio-mining to reclaim land scientifically. In a city like Mumbai , where large parcels of land are rare, the dumpsite land has gained attention in recent years. The administration has proposed several options to transform this land into usable space.

During the early 2000s, the BMC had four land parcels in the city at Deonar, Chincholi Bunder (Malad),
