It has been a busy few days for the Nitro girls basketball team.
The Wildcats took down defending WVSSAC Class AAAA state champion Spring Valley, 61-50, on Saturday, then took on defending Class AA champ Charleston Catholic on Wednesday night.
Nitro got a balanced scoring attack, seeing three players finish with double figures, and knocked off the Irish, 58-44, inside Alumni Arena, marking its second win in five days over a defending titleholder.
The host Wildcats shot 18 of 47 (38%) overall, 7 of 21 (33%) from 3 and 15 of 19 from the free throw line (79%).
Nitro's full-court defense was also suffocating at points Wednesday, forcing 19 Charleston Catholic turnovers.
