Growing up in nearby Otonabee, Fitzgerald being selected third overall by the Peterborough Petes in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection looked like a storybook junior career waiting to happen. Article content Article content
Following an OHL championship in 2023, the Petes expected the talented, 6-foot-3 centre to be a foundational piece of their rebuild and eventual success.
Even with the drama of Fitzgerald signing a tender with the United States Hockey League’s Green Bay Gamblers the week before the OHL draft, the allure of playing for the Petes was ultimately too strong.
