BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - An organization focused on improving the quality of life for children who have faced hardship. This holiday season is a good time to learn about a local nonprofit. Since 2004, Brave Heart has been helping children who have experienced trauma. Its initiatives are focused on children in the most vulnerable of positions – foster care. The organization has a few opportunities for community involvement right here in the capital city.
Youth aging out: Children turning 18 in the foster care system can choose up to $200 from a list of different educational and general items to help establish themselves as young adults.
Duffel bag initiative: State law now requires youth transitioning between homes or placement in the foster care system. Funding is needed.
