After an epic, five-year chase, Adam Kopytowski, of Verona, finally got “the Monarch,” as he calls the eight-year-old trophy buck he shot with his .308 in Oneida County during regular deer season. The buck had 14 points and a notched a green score of 176.5.
“Me and my daughter, McKenzie, spent countless hours in stands and cameras, driving around every night trying to figure out his movements,” Kopytowski said. “People don’t even know how much time I’ve put into this giant.”
This year, Kopytowski put his tree stand up near last season’s spot because he’d glimpsed the Monarch in the area. Over three days in mid-season, he tracked the big buck’s movements on his cell cams cruising the woods for doe. Every day the buck showed up at the same time.
