Camillus, N.Y. – The glue of the Tuesday night pickup men’s lacrosse league at Pine Grove is 77 years old and wears a pair of white, broken-in New Balances with a brace on his right ankle.

He wears red shorts and a white t-shirt with the Onondaga word for lacrosse, Ddehoñtjihgwa’és, written across the front, obscured by an STX chest protector and a white pinnie.

Jon Ryan has been in love with lacrosse for over 70 years now. Though he is easily the oldest member of the invite-only league, he never misses a week and has no intentions of skipping anytime soon. Every Tuesday, he drives an hour to Pine Grove from Venice, a tiny town near Moravia, yet he’s usually there an hour early and is the last to leave the postgame hangout at The Wildcat Sports Pub.
