Once you've shucked and slurped oysters out of their shells, it doesn't feel quite right to dump the iridescent beauties into the garbage can, later crushed and incinerated among all of the other trash in a landfill.

But with Georgia's oyster shell recycling program, they have the ability to be returned back to their natural habitat. About 10 shell recycling centers along Georgia's coast in Chatham, McIntosh, Camden and Glynn counties are accepting shells sans trash, bags or items other than the shells themselves.
