PORTLAND, Maine — Firefighters quickly knocked down an early morning blaze at a commercial building on Lancaster Street on Thursday, according to the Portland Fire Department.
Crews were called to 115 Lancaster St. at 4:52 a.m. and struck an all-hands assignment five minutes later after finding smoke coming from a single-story commercial structure, the fire department said in a press release. Firefighters brought the fire under control by 5:06 a.m.
Fire crews helped a man out of the building shortly after they arrived, officials said. A second victim — a woman — was located a short time later at a nearby address after a separate 911 call for medical help. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to the fire department.
No firefighters were injured, officials said.
