ANN ARBOR, Ind.–The University of Michigan has fired head football coach Sherrone Moore over an inappropriate relationship he’s accused of having with a staff member.

University Athletic Director Warde Manuel said “credible evidence” was found following an internal investigation.

Manuel noted the university’s zero-tolerance stance and has named Biff Poggi as the program’s interim head coach. Moore took over for Jim Harbaugh, who left for the NFL, following the Wolverines’ College Football Playoff National Championship in 2023.

Moore was initially detained by police in Saline, Michigan, on Wednesday and turned over to authorities in Pittsfield Township “for investigation into potential charges.”
