1NEWARK, NJ – Two unidentified suspects assaulted and robbed a 53-year-old employee inside a Northfield Avenue business Tuesday afternoon before escaping in a gray Mercedes SUV.

The robbery happened around 12:20 p.m. inside 451 Northfield Avenue, according to police.

The victim sustained minor injuries after being struck in the head with a firearm but declined medical treatment at the scene.

Suspects brandished gun during confrontation

Authorities said one of the suspects displayed a firearm during the incident and struck the employee over the head while the second suspect forced him to the ground. The pair demanded property from the victim before fleeing the store.
