FORT WORTH, Texas — One of the elite coaches in the history of Texas high school football has decided to come out of retirement.
Former Aledo head coach Steve Wood, who helped build a dynasty that has now amassed a dozen state championships, will take the job on Thursday at Southwest Christian High School.
"You know, some people just aren't good at retirement, I suppose," he quipped in a phone conversation on Wednesday.
Wood went 75-4 in his five seasons as the head coach at Aledo, setting a pace never seen before in Texas high school football. He was on pace to be the fastest coach in state history to win 100 games before he and Buchanan swapped roles. Now he'll have a chance to pick up that pace once again.
