Berlin: Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte has warned that European allies must take the threat from Russia more seriously, saying that countries in the alliance could become Moscow’s next targets if they do not strengthen their defenses.
Speaking at a security forum in Berlin, Rutte said that Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine shows that Europe cannot assume long term peace. He urged member states to invest more in defense and increase weapons production, stressing that Nato needs to be ready for any future challenges. He noted that Russia could be capable of using military force against Nato within a few years if the alliance does not improve its preparedness.
Rutte’s comments come as Ukraine continues diplomatic efforts to pursue peace. Kyiv has recently handed a revised peace proposal
