There’s no way to drive to Vancouver from the Okanagan this morning.
All major highways between the B.C. Interior and the Lower Mainland have been closed due to extreme weather.
Flooding, falling rock and debris, and a high risk of avalanches have led to the closure of the Coquihalla Highway between Merritt and Hope, the Hope-Princeton Highway, and the Trans-Canada between Hope and Lytton. Also closed is Highway 99 from Lillooet toward Squamish.
There is no timeline for re-opening, the Ministry of Transportation and Transit says. Ministry staff and maintenance contractor continue to patrol highways to identify areas of concern.
Contractors are on standby to clear debris and reopen highways as soon as it is safe to do so.
The DriveBC website says an update is expected at 8 a.m.
