An airstrike by Myanmar’s military reduced to rubble a hospital operating in territory held by the Arakan Army, a major ethnic rebel group, leaving 34 patients and medical personnel dead, the Associated Press reported quoting a local rescue worker and independent media reports released on Thursday.
The attack occurred on Wednesday night in Mrauk-U township in Rakhine state, a region that has been engulfed by conflict as the rebel force expands control.
Roughly another 80 people were wounded when the strike hit the general hospital, which sits in an area administered by the Arakan Army.
The ruling military authorities have not publicly acknowledged carrying out any operation in the vicinity.
