Six students were recognized at the local VFW post Sunday for their outstanding submissions to national essay competitions the Patriot's Pen and Voice of Democracy.
The Patriot's Pen, submitted by local middle schoolers, went to Gabriel Galindo from Wade Carpenter Middle School, who won $500. Desert Shadows Middle School's Juliette Lomeli and Wade Carpenter's Emilio Raffta came in second and third, winning $350 and $200. ×
