TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. —

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of an inmate Wednesday.

According to the sheriff's office, Eugene Hickerson, 55, was found unresponsive in his assigned dorm. Advertisement

Staff tried to revive Hickerson, but he did not survive, according to the sheriff's office.

At the same time, another inmate experienced a minor medical emergency, but officials do not believe the incidents are related.

Authorities said they found no illegal narcotics during a sweep of the facility.
