Michigan football spent several years wandering aimlessly not all that long ago. Following the retirement of national championship-winning head coach Lloyd Carr, Michigan cycled through two different regimes under Rich Rodriguez and Brady Hoke, with neither able to prop the program up to its former glory.

But Michigan found its guy with Jim Harbaugh, a well-respected NFL head coach who was returning to his alma mater with visions of great success. Although things got off to an underwhelming start, Harbaugh ultimately led the Wolverines to the National Championship in 2023 and their greatest period of success this century.
