A North Dakota mom who was bracing herself for her son’s parent-teacher conference ended up leaving in tears.

Lauren Trefethren (@laurenmidwest) posted a reel on Instagram, explaining what happened during her son, Ames’s, meeting with his teacher Mr. Jason Hall.

Although Lauren has rarely sensed that people are deliberately judging Ames, who has had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) since birth , it’s clear to her that there are some subtle underlying biases regarding his symptoms.

“I do believe that teachers are trying their best to be understanding, but I have attended many conferences where the focus was on Ames’s difficulties or deficiencies, so I was mentally prepared for that to happen again,” she told Newsweek .
