Alberta’s auditor general is recommending stronger guidelines for healthcare performance reporting after his office found Alberta Health Services (AHS) had published low-quality, and inconsistent summaries.

The new report was one of eight released by Auditor General Doug Wylie on Thursday morning. The file on AHS focuses on the agency’s public performance reporting, including its annual report and reporting on the Healthcare Action Plan for the 2023 fiscal year, which ran from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023.

It found that reporting didn’t always align with guidelines, varied from report to report, and “lacked features of high-quality public performance reporting.”
