It figures that I tried to match outfits to celebs at this Chanel show, but this was one of the few I punted on — and of course it went to the brand’s newest ambassador, which should have been a slam-dunk guess. Apparently a lot of the denim in that collection is secretly silk, which is cool, and I assume this falls into that; I wonder how it looks in person, because it’s SO convincing in photos. And photos are how 99 percent of us are ever going to engage with this, so it might as well BE real denim. Ergo, while I know a lot of craft would’ve gone into the actual silk, there is an inescapable laziness to the general aesthetic — for example, I have a sleeveless wool cardigan I throw over this same basic outfit when I need a little extra warmth at home.
