EDEN, N.C. — An elderly person died in a house fire Wednesday night on Person Street in Eden, according to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office.

The fire broke out around 11 p.m., burning into the early morning. First responders found one person dead inside the home after crews extinguished the flames.

The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office responded to the home at 1018 Person St. after neighbors reported that an elderly person may have been inside. A deputy attempted to enter the building, but the fire had already overtaken the structure.

Fire crews from Eden City, Draper, Leakesville, and Shiloh fire departments helped put out the fire.
