MONROE — A new commissioner is on the Monroe County Board of Commissioners, despite a pending legal opinion and some of the opinions of his colleagues.
“Since the citizens spoke, I’m stepping up, and I’m going to take the mantle and do the job until the court says ... I’m not the person,” said Dale Biniecki, the District 2 commissioner.
Mr. Biniecki, of Raisinville Township, won a special election for the District 2 seat in November.
But the county, and the individual who formerly held that seat, are still waiting for a decision from the Michigan Court of Appeals on if the former commissioner vacated his seat.
Mark Brant has represented District 2 since 2012. In September, 2024, he pleaded guilty to one count of maintaining a drug-involved premises. He stepped down from office but was
