Kofa (2-0) and Cibola (0-2) met for both teams’ first local contest on Wednesday at Irv Pallack Field and the results did not disappoint, as the squads traded blows before Kings emerged for a 4-2 victory.

For Kofa head coach Jamie Nicewander, a seasoned veteran of local soccer who has coached the Kings for over two decades, the contentious start for the Kings was no foreign concept, as growing pains are nothing new to start the year.

“(A team at the beginning of the year) is like bacon, you got to throw it in the oven and let it sit for a while,” Nicewander said. “That’s how it is with players sometimes, you have to let them settle in and they need some time to do that, so we are still trying to get the right mix.”
