MADISON (WKOW) — Ahead of a crucial vote on health care funding on Thursday, Wisconsin's U.S. senators shared their differing views on the future of the American health care system.

Despite agreeing that the system is broken, they could not reach a consensus on financing. Their disagreement was reflected when neither the Republican nor Democratic proposals passed in the Senate on Thursday.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin, a Democrat, held a press conference before the vote. She criticized Republicans for not having a plan and described the proposed tax credits as a temporary fix.

"The only way forward right now is this three-year extension to these tax breaks to buy us the time we need to work together across the aisle on broader reforms," Baldwin said.
