DES MOINES, Iowa —
The ACLU of Iowa released a report today that indicates issues with how license plate readers in Iowa are regulated. The research was done by University of Iowa’s Technology Law Clinic.
The ACLU says it would like to see more state regulations on the use of automated license plate readers, for the protection of Iowans' privacy. However, some law enforcement agencies say — the devices help with that.
“The goal of the report was to take a step back and look more systematically at ALPR use,” said Professor Meghan Graham, with the University of Iowa’s College of Law. She also directs the University’s Technology Law Clinic.
