LIHUE (HawaiiNewsNow) - Kauai County launched an initiative that aims to deliver free satellite internet to remote and underserved areas on the island.
The County worked with the state’s Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs to launch the Kauai Hi-Wifi Starlink Program.
The project uses Starlink satellites to provide free public WiFi access to areas with limited communication infrastructure, such as Kee Beach, remote parks, and areas with poor cellular service.
Officials say the goal is to benefit lifeguards, hikers, park rangers, state and county employees, residents, and emergency communications.
“Expanding broadband access isn’t just about connectivity, it’s about equity, safety, and ensuring every community has the tools to thrive,” said Cable Television Administrator Randy L
