COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 14-year-old boy appeared in a Franklin County courtroom Thursday in connection with the death of his 11-year-old cousin.

The teen is charged with reckless homicide after prosecutors say he accidentally shot and killed Amya Frazier.

Initially, police described the shooting as “a non-intentional shooting between family members.”

The shooting happened Friday at the teen’s west Columbus home. Frazier died three days later from her injuries.

During the boy’s first court appearance, he entered a denial to the charge . After the hearing, his father spoke briefly with 10TV about what happened. 10TV is not naming the father to keep the child's identity anonymous.
