FLINT, MI – A Flint woman was found guilty of first-degree retail fraud after attempting to steal more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from Meijer in Burton.
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton announced the jury’s verdict on Dec. 11 via news release.
Tammy Lynn Athey, 54, was accused of filling a shopping cart with at least 30 clothing items at the Burton Meijer on Nov. 28, 2024.
She then attempted to push the shopping cart out of the exit doors without attempting to pay for the items.
The shopping cart locked up as she attempted to escape, so she grabbed as many items as she could and exited the store, according to testimony from the trial.
