YORK COUNTY, Pa. — After the U.S. Mint decided to stop minting pennies this summer, businesses are already seeing fewer customers using them for payment.

"I like having cash on me, but I guess it's kind of an inconvenience these days having a pocket full of change, right?” Steven Wayne Cincibus, a shopper, explained.

When the piggy bank nearly ran out for Twin Pine Farm Country Store , the store posted on social media , looking for customers to spare some change.

Owner Denny Ilyes shared that nearly 80% of sales are now cashless, but they still need the pennies.

“Our bank and another bank that I know of said they wouldn't have any pennies to sell anymore," Ilyes said. "And we go through about $7 to $10 worth of pennies a week.”
