GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - The Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon will celebrate its 10th anniversary this weekend with a record number of participants.
More than 5,100 runners have registered for the event. Runners from 49 states will participate, along with participants from Japan, Canada, and Mexico.
“To be able to bring in this number of people from out of town who have never been to the Coast to see it, experience it, and run, it’s really phenomenal,” said Mike Wattigny, marketing director for the marathon.
The Keesler Federal Marathon (26.2 miles) and Half Marathon (13.1 miles) will be on Sunday.
The full marathon starts near Henderson Point in Pass Christian and travels down Highway 90, ending at Keesler Federal Park in Biloxi. The half marathon begins at Jones Park in Gulfport a
