Accused serial rapist Richard Mantha had a “clear modus operandi” in targeting vulnerable, drug-addicted women, the Crown said in closing arguments Thursday.
It’s been nearly two years since Mantha’s trial began in Calgary.
Mantha’s trial, which started in January 2024, has faced several lengthy delays due to him firing two sets of lawyers and then two health incidents, including a stroke which has left him unable to speak.
The 61-year-old is on trial on 20 charges, accused of kidnapping, drugging and sexually assaulting seven women between August 2019 and April 2023.
