David Twiddy, running to be a Dare Commissioner in 2026, re-elected Chair of the Dare Board of Education

In another rematch for the position of Chairman of the Dare County Board of Education, current Chair David Twiddy defeated Ron Payne by a 4-3 vote at the Board’s Dec. 8 meeting.
Following that vote, Payne was unanimously re-elected as Vice-Chair of the Board.
Twiddy has filed to run for the District 1 seat on the Dare County Board of Commissioners in the 2026 elections. Mike Burrus is the incumbent Commissioner and aside from Twiddy, Retired District Court Judge Edgar Barnes has also filed to challenge Burrus in next year’s Republican primary.
