Dudley award
James Madison quarterback Alonza Barnett III won the Dudley Award, given to the top Division I football player in Virginia, on Richmond TV station WTVR on Thursday night.
Barnett has accounted for 35 touchdowns and more than 3,000 yards of offense in leading the Dukes to the Sun Belt championship and the College Football Playoff. He became the second JMU player to win it in three years, joining Jalen Green in 2023, and the fourth Dukes quarterback all-time to gain the state’s equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.
The other finalists were Old Dominion quarterback Colton Joseph, now in the transfer portal, and Virginia running back J’Mari Taylor.
Meanwhile, Virginia Union running back Curtis Allen won the Lanier Awa
