AMES, Iowa —

Iowa State may have been down to Iowa, but the crowd was as loud as ever when new Cyclones football coach Jimmy Rogers got on the mic Thursday night.

Rogers, who was hired Friday after former coach Matt Campbell left for Penn State, spoke briefly during a break of the men's Cy-Hawk game at Hilton Coliseum.

"We're going to fill up Jack Trice Stadium and make it the best stadium in the country," he said.

He didn't close by dropping the mic, but he might as well have. The crowd exploded when he closed with:

"Let's cheer on Coach Otz and let's beat the (expletive) Hawks!"
