MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin Elections Commission on Thursday denied a request from the U.S. Department of Justice to share the state's unredacted voter list, saying that doing so would violate state law.
The DOJ asked the Commission last week to share the full voter registration list including the last four digits of each voter's social security number, each voter's driver's license number, or both.
In a letter denying the request, the Commission said it would hand over non-confidential voter data, but that federal laws cited by the DOJ in its request do not override state law.
