Shivraj Patil, veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister, died at his residence in Latur, Maharashtra, on Friday, 12 December. Patil, 90, passed away at his residence after a brief illness, according to family sources, who informed the news agency PTI.

Patil was born on 12 October 1935 in the Latur district of Maharashtra. Patil studied at Osmania University and was trained as a lawyer before entering public life.
