After Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s AHINDA (minorities and backward classes) legislators’ dinner in Belagavi, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar held a separate dinner meeting with more than 50 MLAs on the city’s outskirts on Thursday.

However, he denied that it was a political show of strength or a parallel mobilisation, calling it a routine visit to long-time party well-wishers.

The back-to-back events triggered fresh political chatter even as the Assembly session continued.

According to party insiders, over 50 MLAs, including five ministers, attended Shivakumar’s dinner at a farmhouse on the outskirts of Belagavi.

The timing fuelled talk of a show of strength, especially with the Congress high command expected to hold a crucial meeting in Delhi after December 19.
