Srinagar- Jammu and Kashmir reported 831 road accident fatalities in 2024, according to data tabled by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) in the Lok Sabha. The Union Territory of Ladakh recorded 61 such deaths during the same period.
The ministry’s figures show that J&K has witnessed fluctuating but persistently high fatality numbers over the past eight years. The UT logged 926 deaths in 2017, 984 in 2018, 996 in 2019, 728 in 2020, 774 in 2021, 805 in 2022, and 893 in 2023, before dropping to 831 this year.
Ladakh, meanwhile, registered 56 fatalities in 2021, 62 in 2022, 59 in 2023, and 61 in 2024.
